Gallery View: Parkland Art League bestows awards

The Parkland Art League 5th Annual Art Show in the gallery of Laura’s Custom Framing and Fine Art, Emmaus, continues through Jan. 28.

The exhibit features 40 works by 25 members of the arts organization. Included are oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels and mixed media pieces.

“I really enjoyed taking the time to look at everything,” says juror Andrew Kish III, “Congratulations to everybody. The show is exceptional.”

Kish, of Schnecksville, is a 2007 Kutztown University BFA graduate and member of the school’s hall of fame.

Exhibition awards:

• Best of Show ($125): Brian Senft, “Sunflowers IV” (acrylic on canvas, 24 in. x 30 in.).

• First Place ($100): Christine Thatcher, “Peter’s Family Retreat” (pastel, 16 in. x 20 in.).

• Second Place ($75): Marianne Knipe, “Pink Lady” (pastel, 9 in. x 12 in.).

• Third Place ($50): Kenneth Browne, “Miss Coney Island, 2011: Green” (oil on canvas, 24 in. x 32 in.).

Honorable mention: Janet Dance, “Mica Through a Microscope” (oil, 18 in. x 36 in.).

Other participating members with works in the exhibition include: Karen Benco, Jeanne Stock, Valerie Schramak, Liz Kenny, Sylvia Roth, James V. Roth, Gloria Hasel, Susan Williams, Kay Stauffer, Deborah Haaf, Mona (Lynne) Yurgel, Carol Riddle, Jill Stanley, Thomas Panfile, Linda Kreckel, Elizabeth Allender, Judy Leichssenring, Emory Smith, Michaela Cardinale and Glenn Kratzer.

Andy McLeod and Russ Rentler provided music at the Dec. 16 gallery reception.

Parkland Art League President Deborah Haaf thanked Laura’s Custom Framing for hosting the exhibit.

Parkland Art League, founded in 1963, schedules venues to display members’ works and holds workshops to teach and encourage Lehigh Valley artists.
