“Mandy Patinkin in Concert: Being Alive,” 7:30 p.m. Jan. 14, State Theater Center for the Arts, Easton. Patinkin, accompanied by Adam Ben-David, piano, will sing many of his favorite Broadway and classic American tunes. The repertoire ranges from Irving Berlin to Stephen Sondheim to Cole Porter to Harry Chapin. Before he was an Emmy-winning TV star, Patinkin was a Tony-winning Broadway legend. “Alive” presents the acclaimed actor-singer-storyteller in his most electrifying role: concert performer. “Mandy Patinkin is in the business of showstopping,” raves The New Yorker magazine. Patinkin has received three Tony Award nominations, winning for his leading role in “Evita” (1980). Patinkin has received seven Primetime Emmy Award nominations, winning Outstanding Leading Actor in a Drama Series for “Chicago Hope” (1995). Patinkin is known for his performances in film, including “The Princess Bride” (1987) and “Yentl” (1983). Jim McGee’s New Kind of Talk, 7:30 p.m. Jan. 13, Rodale Room, Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown. New Kind of Talk is a contemporary electric jazz group, In addition to McGee, bass, the group includes Jim Meyer, guitar; Mike Trach, saxophone, flute; Craig Kastelnik, keyboards; Hector Rosado, Latin percussion, and Danny Gonzales, drums. McGee is composer of the group’s original music. The grup also performs jazz takes on well-known pop music. The style is described in Jazziz magazine as “an electric fusion of jazz, rock, funk and Latin genres.” The group’s latest CD is “The Very Best of New Kind of Talk,” a compilation of tunes from two CD releases, “Change in Time” and “Songs Out of Character.” Tickets: Miller Symphony Hall box office, 23 N.
