Volunteer opportunities

Assist with literacy activities in a kindergarten or first grade classroom in the Allentown School District one hour per week or more. Clearances and attendance at an orientation session required. The next orientation of the 2022-2023 school year will be held 1-2 p.m. Jan. 11 at Hays Elementary School. Preregistration required before the orientation. Have you ever wanted to be a mascot for a local organization? Do you already have mascot experience in your repertoire? Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor is searching for enthusiastic volunteers to join a team of volunteers to help manage and perform as mascot, Dela the Mule, for just a few hours or take on multiple days, during public events and for marketing purposes. Drivers are needed to transport families experiencing homelessness from congregations to a day center 6 a.m. each day and then back to congregations 6 p.m. for Family Promise of Lehigh Valley clients. The vehicle is a 15-passenger van, no special license required. Congregations are all within 30 minutes of the Day Center located at 1346 W. Hamilton St., Allentown. Pick a day and shift you prefer. Do you have basic data entry skills and are comfortable working in an office environment? Second Harvest Food Bank in Nazareth would benefit with your support for about 10 hours per week to assist with processing PA Senior Food Box Program applications and communicating their status to the people the program serves. Sights for Hope is in search of compassionate and energetic individuals to assist visually impaired clients during center-based and community-based programs. Clients participate in life skills education, support groups and social activities 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. weekdays. The minimum age to volunteer is 21. Who else provides programs and activities designed to help young people overcome the pressures and limitations of their environment? The Caring Place Youth Development Center in Allentown is looking for volunteers to conduct basic maintenance duties and repairs, clean facility daily and fill in where needed.
