Entries sought for gingerbread contest

Gingerbread competition and display Dec. 10

Kalmbach Memorial Park, 200 Cotton St., Macungie, will continue its tradition of a holiday gingerbread contest and display 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 10.

Gingerbread creators will compete in the following categories:

Traditional Gingerbread

Entries in this category may be any structure including, Victorian, colonial, modern, house, barn, cottage etc., according to organizers. Entries in this category are expected to be decorated for Christmas.

Incredibly Unusual 3-Dimensional Gingerbread Creation

Make a gingerbread creation out of the ordinary. Gingerbread structures need not be of a traditional design. Be creative. No buildings or houses are allowed in this category.

Remembering

Royalty

In honor of Queen Elizabeth II, this year’s new category is Remembering Royalty. Those who enter this category are encouraged to create a royal holiday with their display. For example, it can include Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace or Balmoral Castle. It can be an item that represents the royal family. Competitors are encouraged to add a royal holiday twist to their work.

Student Gingerbread Creation

This category is exclusively for entrants 12 to 17 years old. Contestants are asked to combine a favorite candy and delicious edibles to design a futuristic candy dream house.

Kids Only! Gingerbread Creation

This category is exclusively for contestants 11 years old and younger who are encouraged to have fun and be creative with their display.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place winners in the general division, the student gingerbread creation competition and the kids only creation competition.

All entries must be in by Dec. 1.
