BREAKING NEWS: Two die in Upper Macungie Twp crash

The driver and passenger in a dump truck were killed this morning when the truck was involved in a crash in the area of I-78 East at Adam’s Road, Upper Macungie Township.

According to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio, at approximately 10:20 a.m. deputies from the Coroner’s Office and Forensic Center were dispatched to the scene.

“At this time, the scene is still active and my deputies remain on location,” Buglio said in a news release.

Buglio said the first man was pronounced dead at 10:48 a.m. The second was pronounced at 12:23 p.m.

According to Buglio, both individuals have been identified, however, that information will not be released until the next-of-kin have been notified.

In addition to the coroner’s office, the deaths are being investigated by State Police Troop M, Fogelsville.

Upper Macungie Township Police Lt. Peter Nickischer with the Crime and Community Services Division, issued the following traffic advisory at 12:14 p.m. .

“Patrol units are reporting increased traffic congestion in the following areas due to the accident on I-78: Main Street, Fogelsville, Route 100, Tilghman Street and Route 222.

“I-78 is expected to be closed for an extended period of time, which will result in continued traffic congestion throughout the township, so be prepared for delays and drive safely.”
