North Catty sets trick or treat for Oct. 29

At the Sept. 19 North Catasauqua Borough Council meeting, trick-or-treat night was announced for 6-8 p.m. Oct. 29. The rain date is scheduled for Oct. 30.

One borough resident, who resides on Culver Street, came to the meeting to discuss two topics: the ornamental streetlights and a crossing guard request.

The development on Culver Street has ornamental street lighting owned by PPL Electric Utilities. The bulbs had reportedly burned out a while ago. The resident requested council contact PPL regarding the issue.

The second discussion was in reference to a request to Catasauqua Area School District regarding the need for a Catasauqua Middle School crossing guard.

At the Aug. 15 meeting, Secretary Tasha Jandrisovits discussed the concern regarding a school crossing guard being needed. Council President Peter Paone said he would speak with board of education member Jason Bashaw regarding this issue.

Paone said, at the Sept. 19 meeting, he has since contacted the school district and is awaiting a response.

In her treasurer’s report, Annette Englert asked for permission regarding two pensions: a police pension and a nonuniform pension in the Minimal Municipal Obligation for 2023. An MMO is the state-mandated smallest amount a municipality must contribute to any pension plan established for its employees.

By law, the borough is required to fund pensions yearly, and every year, the borough submits the MMO to an actuary, which then confirms or denies the amount. Foster & Foster is the actuary being used for submitting the MMO 2023 report.

In other news, fire Chief Roger Scheirer gave the Civil Service Commission report. Two applications have been received for a full-time police officer position, and the CSC exam will be administered to determine eligibility.

Council next meets 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at the borough building, 1066 Fourth St.
