Engineer provides project updates

During the Sept. 15, Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, Resolution 2022-61 for preliminary/final land development for 7991 Quarry Road was approved. This project is for a logistical operation facility. The site was originally a quarry.

The site is bordered by Norfolk Southern railroad, to the south by the Sauerkraut Lane extension, to the west by Lutron and to the north by a composting facility. There is a delay with the project due to the construction of the Sauerkraut Road extension.

This project is a 71,250 square foot building with office space. There will be 102 tractor trailer parking spaces and 55 passenger vehicle spaces. It is not being considered a warehouse but will be known as a shipping facility.

The preliminary/final land development for Fields at Brookside was approved. This is a 66 single family housing development bordering Brookside Country Club and lies mainly in Macungie Borough.

The plan calls for road widening and creation of a left turn lane for southbound traffic onto the country club driveway. There will be a walking trail with a fence separating it from neighboring properties.

Resolution 2022-63 was also approved in agreement with Macungie Borough’s Act 537 which is for a sewer planning module.

Marti Schwartz and Daniel Fletes resigned from the parks and recreation board. The board accepted the resignations with regret.

Township Engineer Bryan McAdam provided an update on ongoing projects. The German Street bridge is completed and open to traffic. The Maulfair Drive drainage issue is near completion. Sauerkraut Lane is behind schedule but construction is ongoing. The Cross Creek Road drainage project is near completion.

There is a potential extension to Stone Hill Meadows of an additional 10 houses with a larger lot size which would add larger homes. The township has said no to the extension but an additional subdivision request would then be the result.

Board President Brian Higgins said this would not be a good idea due to the present flooding problems in the area, a result of water running down hill. This will appear before the zoning hearing board.

There was an executive session after the meeting regarding personnel.
