Sept. 29

The Upper Milford Historical Society will host speaker Bruce Stocking in his lecture titled “From Rum to Revolution, The Publik House” about the early days of the American Republic and the role of the tavern in the community. The meeting program begins 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township municipal building, 5671 Chestnut St., Old Zionsville.

Oct. 1

Upper Milford Township volunteer firefighters and other area first responders will be featured noon to 3 p.m. as part of the township’s community day at the municipal center, 5671 Chestnut St. The event includes fire truck and ambulance displays and a visit by Smokey Bear.

The Allentown Music Club will begin the 2022-2023 season 2 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road. This free recital of international music is open to interested persons. The performers are Jeanne Harakal, Cindy Cicconi-Ernst, Stephen Molloy and The Maestro Winds directed by Karen El-Chaar. Santa Peters will open the program with the national anthem and Federation Hymm.

Trash cleanup of the Allentown-to-Bethlehem section of the D&L Trail 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will meet at Sand Island West, River Street, Bethlehem. For more information, visit thewanderersupplyco.com.

Oct. 2

Cash bingo at Macungie Memorial Park, lower level, at Route 100 and North Poplar Street. The doors open noon and games begin 1 p.m. The event benefits the Friends of the Macungie Institute. For more information, call 610-966-7830.

Oct. 4

Free educational lecture on atrial fibrillation at the Macungie Institute, 510 E. Main St., Macungie, 7 p.m. Discover what happens during AFib. What are the risk factors? What are the consequences of AFib? The lecture will be presented by LVHN cardiothoracic surgeons Dr. James Wu and Dr. Timothy Misselbeck. Refreshments will be provided and all ages are welcome to attend.

The Emmaus Garden Club will meet noon, at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St., Emmaus. The program will be “Putting the Garden to Bed for the Winter” with Linc Coffin. Learn how to extend your gardening season and how to clean up the garden properly for winter. Linc Coffin, a Penn State Master Gardener, will lead attendees through these processes. The Vera Cruz Halloween Parade will start 7 p.m. Organizers ask parade participants arrive by 6:30 p.m. The rain date is Oct. 13.

Oct. 15

Fall bazaar at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Event includes crafts, attic treasures, basket auction, bake sale, quilt raffle and food.

Wine tasting and silent auction to benefit the Southern Lehigh Public Library 7-9 p.m. at the library, 3200 Preston Lane, Center Valley. Tickets available at solehipl.org.

Oct. 27

The Woman’s Club of Emmaus will host its Fall Card Party 1 p.m. in the meeting hall of St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St., Emmaus. This is a fundraising event to support the club’s scholarship program. There is a cost per person to play. Invite friends and make a table of four to play whatever game you choose. The Upper Milford Historical Society meeting will feature speaker Mike Jesberger and his lecture titled “The True Story of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” The program will investigate the real events behind the tale of Ichabod Crane and the headless horseman, a story based on actual incidents in the Hudson Valley in New York.
