PSP seeks to connect more with Bath Borough residents

At a relatively brief but efficient Bath Borough Council meeting held Sept. 6, Mayor Fiorella Reginelli-Mirabito introduced Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Seth Kelly.

Kelly was accompanied by PSP Troop M Community Relations Officer Trooper Nathan Branosky to provide an update for council on PSP activities in the borough.

Kelly emphasized the importance of Bath residents contacting the PSP if there are any issues. He noted they should dial 911 for an urgent call. For non-urgent calls, they should simply call the PSP at 610-861-2026.

He also emphasized the popular statement, “If you see something, say something.”

“You have the best police service in the nation,” Kelly remarked.

He said the PSP is the seventh-largest police force in the United States.

Kelly further said they are delighted to patrol Bath and assist Bath with community safety. He then went on to cite some PSP response statistics for Bath. The statistics are available for the public to review by contacting the borough office.

When asked whether Bath’s call numbers are higher or lower than other communities its size, it was said the call volume is lower than some other communities.

In closing, Kelly noted there is a Coffee with a Cop event planned for 9-11 a.m. Oct. 1 at borough hall for residents to spend time with the officers and ask questions. He also noted Northampton District Attorney Terry Houck is scheduled to attend.

There will also be a Treats with a Trooper event 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31 at borough hall to trick or treat with the troopers.

Council Vice President Frank Hesch thanked all who assembled and participated in the recent Bath Old Home Week. Hesch said the weeklong celebration was a success, and he looks forward to the 2023 Old Home Week.

Hesch, in his Monocacy Creek watershed liaison report, noted there is a plan to clean up the creek that runs through Bath at some point in November. The date is to be announced.

Also, the watershed group applied for a grant to help fund educational signs for placement throughout the watershed.

Reginelli-Mirabito thanked Hesch for his work developing the team that executed a successful Old Home Week.

“It was a big success,” she said about the event.

She also thanked Bath Fire Department for holding two fun splash events during the summer.

Reginelli-Mirabito informed council there will be an effort to paint a mural on the pump house at Fireman’s Park. She is seeking volunteers to prep and paint the pump house to prepare for a talented young artist to create an attractive mural on the pump house. Contact the borough office to volunteer for this important effort.

Council approved Colliers Engineering to create an official borough map.

The next Bath Borough Council meeting is 6 p.m. Oct. 3 at borough hall, 121 S. Walnut St.
