LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

WHS falls just short vs. EHS

Whitehall showed Emmaus everything it had but came up short in its 27-19 loss to the Hornets last Friday night at Whitehall.

Emmaus took a 27-12 lead in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter on Hornet quarterback Jacob Fotta’s 65-yard pass to senior wide receiver Dylan Darville.

The Zephyrs then took advantage of two Emmaus penalties to continue their drive that culminated in a touchdown when Whitehall quarterback Trey Dogmanits found junior wide receiver Braden Bashore in the corner of the end zone with 5:42 remaining.

Andrew Deutsch’s PAT was good, and Whitehall made it an eight-point game.

Ten seconds later, Whitehall recovered its own kickoff bringing the home team fans to their feet, but Dogmanits’ pass on fourth-and-5 was dropped, and Emmaus took possession.

The Zephyrs had one more chance to tie, but Emmaus safety Ryan DeJohn’s interception with less than a minute on the clock ended the game.

Dogmanits threw for 236 yards against the Hornets, including a 12-yard pass to Jack Kocher for the Zephyrs’ first touchdown late in the second quarter, which came after Fotta was intercepted by Carter Troxell.

A last-minute touchdown by the Hornets’ Tylik Jarvis, however, gave Emmaus a nine-point halftime lead.

Whitehall had an opportunity in the opening minutes of the third quarter when the Zephyrs’ recovered a Hornet fumble on their own 45-yard line but couldn’t gain any ground.

A sack by Whitehall senior Logan Headman, also in the third quarter, quieted the Hornets for a time as neither team could score.

Emmaus scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, the first on a 13-yard pass from Fotta to Owen Garcia and the second, on a 61-yard pass from Fotta to his brother Chase.

The 3-0 Hornets will host East Stroudsburg North on Friday, and Whitehall, 1-2, will travel to Easton to take on the 0-3 Red Rovers.
