Salisbury Police Department sponsors National Night Out for township residents

Police departments across the nation helped the residents of their communities to celebrate National Night Out Aug. 2.

National Night Out is typically held on the first Tuesday in August to bring cops and community members together. There were more than 190 events planned in Pennsylvania communities and 189 in New Jersey.

The Salisbury National Night Out event was held at the Salisbury Middle School campus along Devonshire Road in the western portion of the township.

The evening’s activities included free catered picnic food and cold beverages, a bounce house and games for youngsters, uniformed police officers chatting with visitors, a music master/emcee and a large contingent of firefighters and vehicles from the township’s eastern and western fire departments demonstrating their gear and equipment.

Salisbury Township Police Chief Kevin Soberick said he was pleased with the turnout of so many families from the community. “It’s important for community residents to be able to interact with members of our police department up close and personal and see how friendly and approachable they are.

“Police officers and firefighters are friends that residents can call on when problems arise and help is needed,” Soberick said. “We’re around 24 hours a day to provide service and protection to those in our community.”
