Proposed Community Day in Alburtis could include carnival

The second Alburtis Borough Council meeting for the month of July took place July 27. For any residents wanting to attend, meetings take place on the second and last Wednesdays of the month at the borough building, 260 Franklin St.

There was a light agenda for this meeting which began with a comment from Council President Ron DeIaco about a local Alburtis resident who won the regional water skiing tournament. Following, Mayor Kathleen Palmer gave no report. She commented, “All’s good in the neighborhood.”

Next, the previous meeting minutes, bills for payment and fiscal consultant’s report were all approved. A comment was made about the excellent job the new fiscal consultant did with his report.

In administration, there was a discussion on the mulch for the new playground being installed at the Alburtis upper ball field. There were two options provided – wood fiber and rubber. The wood was quoted at $1,843 and the rubber at $6,223. The biggest difference between the two is rubber is known to last much longer, so the cost may be higher now, but it could cost less in the long run. Council decided on the wood mulch.

A punch list was received from Ott Consulting regarding work needing to be done. Then, a recommendation to pay Standard Pipe Services was approved.

Resolution 2022-8 was discussed, which was a Multimodal Transportation Fund grant application for work to be done on School Street. The grant would total $892,129. This was approved.

A recycling event for residents was scheduled for July 30 at Macungie Park.

Last, a Community Day was proposed but a date was not decided. There was discussion about possibly another small carnival that could take place at the fire company property or Lockridge Park.

The meeting was then adjourned. The next borough council meeting will be held 7 p.m. Aug. 10.
