Presbyterian church adds prayer nook

At a church picnic on Father’s Day, June 19, Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua revealed a new prayer nook for its members and for others of all faiths.

“This is another way we can profess our faith. We can offer prayers at any time, and we can offer those who need help. Every week, all the prayers are collected and read,” said Scott Tobey, a parishioner of the church, located at 210 Pine St.

The nook was designed by Katie Tobey, daughter of Scott Tobey. This prayer nook is an addition to the regular prayer list. Prayer petitions can be placed at the prayer nook at any time.

“Our services are a part of our Christian faith,” Jimmy Smith added.

Smith is a ruling elder at the church and serves as a worship lead while the congregation looks for a new pastor.

As for other community outreaches, every month, the congregation prepares dinners for those who are in need. The program has been a great success. In its early efforts, volunteers handled 80 dinners; at last count, volunteers prepared 200 dinners.

The church’s normal office hours are 9 a.m.- 2 p.m., and appointments are encouraged.
