EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I graduated from Emmaus High School June 12.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My mother’s name is Tammy and my father’s name is Arthur. I have two older brothers, Arti and Tristan. I also have two chickens named Beaky and Sunny and a fire-bellied toad.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject this year was AP Physics C with Mr. Ohl because it was a small class of just nine people and my lab partner was one of my best friends. I also really enjoyed the demonstrations and topics covered in the class.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I am a member of National Honor Society and German National Honor Society and I am in the Da Vinci Science Center Hall of Fame for receiving the Young Inventor Award. I also hold four U.S. patents. I am an Eagle Scout and I received the Outstanding in German Award, the EHS Chamber Strings Award and the Honors Graduate Medal. I also received three Gold Key awards in the Scholastic Art and Writing competition for my metalworking pieces. I was also given the Coaches Choice Award in Track and Field as a javelin thrower. In addition, I was on Principal’s Honor Roll every marking period of high school.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?

A. I was a cellist in the EHS orchestra, Sinfonia, chamber orchestra and was the leader of the cello ensemble. I played in the district orchestra and was accepted to play in the regional orchestra festival. I was also a Leagues-qualifying javelin thrower and ran on the cross-country team. COVID-19 had a big impact on me in the 10th and 11th grades because all of my extracurricular activities were canceled after January in 10th grade. This meant I didn’t have orchestra concerts and track and field competitions and I also couldn’t play in the orchestra for graduation which I had really enjoyed in ninth grade. In 11th grade, school was virtual and all my sports and music activities were heavily altered and it took nearly all the fun out of everything. The one good part about online school was I could cook my own lunch every day.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. Making time each day to get everything done and have time for my hobbies and interests while still getting As in every class has been my biggest challenge.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. I will be attending Penn State University Park in the fall to study mechanical engineering and I would like to get a job or internship at a company that will help me in my career as a mechanical engineer.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I admire my dad because he is highly motivated and gets things done. He is always working to be as successful as possible.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered as someone who is creative, artistic, productive and fun to be around.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. To anyone who is not yet a senior in high school, take as many AP and honors classes as you can, and fill your schedule. You’ll get more out of your time in school and won’t feel bored.
