Softball team incorporates some props

For the past few weeks, Whitehall’s softball team has been toting around an orange traffic cone and an inflatable boat, and it appears as if the relatively new Zephyr props are here to stay.

“The cone was the first thing that came up because we’re all looking around and seeing them, so why not just use one and paint it up with everyone’s number and write Whitehall Softball on it to show everyone who Whitehall is,” said senior left fielder Ally Pavone.

The boat came second, borne out of a saying by Coach Jeff Vivian.

“Coming off a tough loss during the season, I told them we need to get back in the we boat, the we boat that we row together,” Vivian said. “They really fought for one another and that unified their message of taking pitches and working counts and seeing stuff so other hitters could have success, and they accomplished that. That’s part of our culture now, and the seniors want to pass that on.”

Since Pavone works part-time at Dick’s Sporting Goods, she decided to shop for a boat.

“I was like, hey, why not see if they have a boat there, and lo and behold, they did, so I bought one,” she said. “We all enjoyed him saying that, so I thought everyone would enjoy having the boat along. As a team, we’re rowing the we boat together. It’s what Whitehall softball is now. We row together.”
