LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Lehigh Valley Phantoms hosting school supplies drive

Summer is officially in full swing! It hasn’t even been two weeks and I’m starting to get the “I’m bored” comments ... are you too? I hope everyone is enjoying these days so far!

Salisbury schools will again be open for summer library hours for students to get books to read. The Salisbury Elementary School library will be open June 29 and July 5, the Salisbury Middle School library will be open June 30 and July 7 and the Salisbury High School library will be open July 6 and July 13. Hours for all dates will be 9 a.m. to noon.

The SHS varsity cheer team is hosting a Menchie’s fundraiser at the Cedar Crest location 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 28. Tell a team member you are supporting the SHS varsity cheer team and 20 percent of your purchase will be donated.

Any Salisbury Township School District students currently in grades 5-11 considering playing a sport at SMS or SHS, being a team manager or joining twirling/marching band, must have a physical dated on or after June 1 to participate in athletics/marching band/twirling in the 2022-2023 school year. St. Luke’s is hosting free athlete physicals at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown 2-7 p.m. July 13 and 2-7 p.m. July 28. Athletes must bring their completed Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, Inc. forms. Updated PIAA forms are available now. Any questions or concerns can be directed to sportsphysicalsinquiry@sluhn.org. Preregistration is required and the link can be found in the email from the athletic department or by emailing the above address.

Salisbury Youth Association registration for both fall cheerleading and football is now open. Participants must be age 4-12 as of Sept. 1. Information for all ages including registrations, fees and practices can be found online at syasports.net. Practices for both begin in July.

With school out for summer break, if you’re looking for things to do the Movie Tavern is holding a family film series. With matinee showings Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, scheduled family friendly movies will be showing. Trolls: World Tour will show June 22-23. They will also have discounted drinks and popcorn available. Tickets are available at marcustheatres.com/theatre-locations/movie-tavern-trexlertown.

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms will host a school supplies drive to benefit kids in our community who are the most in need. Collections will be daily 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through July 22 with drop off boxes located inside near Tim Horton’s. Items in need include: #2 pencils, glue sticks, crayons, folders, highlighters, rulers, spiral notebooks, erasers, washable markers, dry erase markers, pencil cases and hand sanitizers.

The Franko Farm Drop-off Center will be open for recycling drop off 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 27 and 30 and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 2. The Devonshire location will be open 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. June 23 and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 25.
