Catasauqua Borough Council approves liquor license transfer

Catasauqua Borough Council held a public hearing/special meeting June 6, before the council workshop meeting.

The special meeting considered a request from Shuban Enterprise LLC for an intermunicipal transfer of a restaurant liquor license to a proposed location at a convenience store at 822 Race St., Catasauqua.

Resolution 10-2022 was passed 6-1 to approve the transfer.

In other business at the meeting, a gentleman approached council about a fire pit issue near his property.

The issue is reportedly unresolved after 26 months. Borough Manager Steve Travers said there was no evidence the neighbor’s fire pit was being used. The resident noted the neighbor used the fire pit over the weekend.

The resident also reported the accessible doorbell’s sign at borough hall fell off and needs to be reattached.

Another resident reported he sees kids playing sports in the streets in his neighborhood. He said he approached the police chief with pictures of the activities. Chief Douglas Kish said the police have to witness the kids playing in the streets in order to act.

The resident was alleged to have threatened his neighbor with a gun, which was reportedly a fabrication. The resident wanted a copy of the police report and was told to get a subpoena from Lehigh County to obtain the police report.

He reportedly went to Lehigh County to get the subpoena. They said they do not issue subpoenas, he said.

Borough Solicitor Thomas Dinkelacker suggested the resident can file a right-to-know request to obtain the police report, but some police reports are protected by law and cannot be shared.

Mayor Barbara Schlegel announced Aug. 13 is National Night Out Against Crime. More information is forthcoming.

The next council meeting is planned for 7 p.m. June 27 in the municipal complex, 90 Bridge St. It is a hybrid meeting, with both in-person and virtual options. Visit catasauqua.org for the access codes to participate virtually.
