Parkland Garden Club members win state awards

Barbara Campbell and Sue Weber, both members of the Parkland Garden Club, were honored with state awards at the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania’s 92nd state convention, held April 3-5, in Malvern.

Campbell won the 2021 State Perennial Bloom Award.

Weber won the 2021 State Myrrel R. Overdorff Community Action Award.

They were recognized among the approximately 4,000 federation members for their volunteerism, contributions and continuous support of the Parkland Garden Club’s and the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania’s goals to promote an interest in gardening, horticulture, floral design and conservation of the natural environment.

Campbell has been involved with the Parkland Garden Club since 1969.

She has served as president for two terms and has served on many of the club’s committees such as program chairwoman, bus tour, horticultural therapy and flower show.

District II/III director of the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania from 2019-20, she was assistant director from 2016-18.

An accredited flower show judge and member of Northeast Judges, she is a landscape design consultant, garden consultant and has completed courses in flower design and environment.

Garden club tour chairwoman for 22 years, Campbell is currently organizing the 2022 “Love of Gardening” tour, which will take place July 16.

Weber has been a Parkland Garden Club member for more than 50 years.

She served as president for two terms, as well as first- and second- vice president.

Weber has chaired flower shows, and program and publicity committees.

She leads the garden club as parliamentarian, making sure proper procedures and bylaws are upheld.

She has served as the scholarship chair since 1990 and is involved in the selection of scholarship recipient each year.

Weber is also active in the Allentown West Rotary Club and the Rotary District, the Lutheran Community Service, and the Community Music School, as well as many other organizations.
