LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

East Penn superintendent addresses Texas school shootig

Dear Parents/Guardians:

I know we share the same feelings of grief following the tragic school shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. It is difficult to come up with the right words of comfort as we move forward as a school community. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims and the entire Uvalde community as they come to terms with this tragedy.

Our counselors are available in all of our school buildings to help support students and staff as they cope with Tuesday’s [May 24] tragedy. Parents have asked what they can do and say at home to support their children. Please access the resource links below as a starting point for these conversations:

•“Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers”

https://www.nasponline.org

•PA Department of Education Crisis Response Guide

•American Psychological Association – “Helping your children manage distress in the aftermath of a shooting”

This is not an easy time for any of us, but be assured that student and staff safety is always our top priority. We will continue to create a learning environment that addresses students’ physical and emotional safety.

Please remember that if you see or hear something suspicious, report it to your building principal or anonymously through the PA Safe2Say program at 1-844-SAF2SAY (1-844-723-2729).

Kristen Campbell, Ed.D.
