Hornet girls take fourth at championships

The Emmaus girls track and field team has depth and they have a star.

The latter is Hailey Reinhard, a prodigious distance runner who makes opponents shake and shiver in their sneakers. During last week’s Eastern Pennsylvania Conference track and field championships at Whitehall High School, the senior finished first in the 3,200-meter race with an 11:24.62 time.

Reinhard helped the Hornets’ roster finish overall fourth with 63 points. Parkland won the competition with 143 points, followed by Easton and Nazareth.

“I’ve told our teams many times that despite having a (regular season) loss we have very strong teams,” Emmaus coach Kami Reinhard said. “Other teams are strong too, and that’s what we want, because it raises the bar for all of our teams in the league and district to compete at a higher level at the PIAA state meet.”

Payton Campbell was 23 seconds behind Reinhard in the 3,200-meter race, good for third, while Isabella Lees took fourth. The 800-meter relay team took fourth

Thrower Molly Lineberger took third in the discus and shot put, while Sheldyne Pierre claimed third in the triple jump and fifth in the high jump.

Up next is the District 11 Class 3A track and field championships. They are scheduled for May 17 and 18 at Whitehall High School.
