Pool season passes now available

Lower Macungie Pool season passes are available on lowermac.com.

The pool will open May 28. Hours are noon to 8 p.m. May 28, 29, 30 and June 4 and 5 and June 11-July 31. The pool will only be open on weekends until June 11. Adult lap swim will be available 9-10 a.m. and 10-11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday mornings. Preregistration is required. The pool will close 4:45 p.m. for swim meets June 16 and 23 and July 5 and 11. Swim lessons are also available.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens have resumed meetings at the Lower Macungie Community Center. The next meetings are noon June 7 and 21.

The Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon June 2 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall in Macungie. Bring your ticket for the picnic. Tickets for the picnic are available through May 20. The next meeting will be held in September. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.

Summer concerts are back. Tookany Creek Bluegrass will play 6-8 p.m. June 4 and Swamp Gurard will perform 6-8:30 p.m. June 10 at the Hills at Lockridge Park Bandshell, 7125 Scenic View Drive, Macungie.

Summer playground program online registration continues. The playground program will be held June 27 through Aug. 12.

Open gym has returned at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Lower Macungie Township offers many programs for adults and children. For more information, go to http://www.lowermac.com/recreation/activities-programs/. Upcoming classes include beginner photography, yoga, card making, belly dance, tai chi, chair yoga, and karate for adults. Youth programs include photography, parent and tot soccer, Kindermusik, toddlers and tutus, pre-ballet, golf clinic and multisport skills.

The community center is open to the public while following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The center is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Yard waste center hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Beginning June 1, the hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings will take place the day after your regular trash day. Yard waste collection will take place the weeks of May 31, June 13 and June 27.

Lower Macungie Library has expanded their hours. The library is now open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The library now offers auto renewals on eligible items. The book drop is open 24/7.

The library will be closed May 24 for staff development and May 28 and 30 for the Memorial Day holiday.

The library now offers notary service at no charge by appointment for residents of the township.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 a.m. to noon June 1 is “Founding Mothers: The Women Who Raised Our Nation” by Cokie Roberts. The book for July 6 is “The Music of Bees: A Novel” by Eileen Garvin. The book club meets virtually.

The Tiny Art Show is back. Starting May 23, students in grades K-12 can register and pick up a kit to create a tiny picture with the “Oceans of Possibilities” theme. Return the artwork by June 18; artwork will be displayed July 5-Aug. 6.

Registration for the 2022 Summer Fun Program will be held 1:30-3:30 p.m. June 10. Children will also be able to adopt their own ocean reading buddy. Staff will be available to answer questions.

Books and Beyond will meet 7-8:30 p.m. June 13 virtually. There will be discussion on books, music, movies, TV, travel, life and more. The next meeting will be 7-8:30 p.m. July 11 via Zoom to discuss “Eternal” by Lisa Scottoline. Registration is required.

Fin-Tastic Family Crafts will be held 10:30-11:15 a.m. and 1:30-2:15 p.m. June 14. All ages are welcome for this family ocean craft. Register for only one session. Another session will be held 10:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-2:30 p.m. June 28.

Teen Reads for grades six through 12 will have DIY Sugar Scrubs 2-3 p.m. June 16. Registration is required.

There will be a family beach party 10-11:30 a.m. June 18. DJ Jimbo will play family friendly music. There will be crafts, games, prizes and snacks. Bring a beach blanket. The event will be held outdoors near the entrance to the new gym. In case of rain, activities will be moved inside.
