Clifford L. Greenawald

Clifford L. “Cliff” Greenawald, 92, of Lehigh Commons, Macungie, formerly of Breinigsville, died May 1, 2022, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. He was the husband of the late June S. (German) Greenawald. Born in Kutztown, he was the son of the late Henry W. and Helen E. (Smith) Greenawald.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with a rank of sergeant.

He was employed at the former Caloric Corporation in Topton as a long-distance truck driver, shipping supervisor and foreman in the enamel department. He concluded his tenure at Caloric as captain of security for two years, retiring in 1992. Before that, he and his wife June operated the former Greenawald’s Economy Store in Topton from 1962 to 1972.

Active in the life of his community and church, he was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Topton, past president of the Topton Lions Club, served on the board of directors of Lehigh Wholesale Grovery Co., member of Huguenot Lodge No. 377, F. & A.M., Kutztown, life member of the N.R.A., member of the Weisenberg Township, Lowhill Township, Lynn Township and Lehigh County historical societies, member of Pike Township Sportsmen’s Association and a life member of the Ray A. Master American Legion Post No. 217, Topton, where he served on the honor guard.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by sisters, Mae Romig and Shirley Balthaser.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. May 7 at St. Peter’s U.C.C., 122 West Franklin St., Topton. Family and friends may pay their respects 9:15-10:15 a.m. May 7 in the church. Masonic service 10:15 a.m. Arrangements were made by the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., Schnecksville.
