LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Hornet ice hockey falls to Bethlehem Catholic

The Emmaus High School ice hockey team hasn’t had the season it had hoped for, with the right breaks not coming. But that hasn’t stopped head coach Doug Kirk and his group from having fun and showing up for every game and keeping it competitive.

In their last game against the Bethlehem Area School District, the Green Hornets were in it until the very end, but came up just short.

“The last two games versus Central and Bethlehem have been better games for us,” said Kirk. “Our last four games have been against the top three teams in the league. We played very well and had great efforts, but, in the end, they just had more depth then us.”

Emmaus has not yet secured a victory, but Kirk is proud of how his team has been competing and every player up and down the roster has worked hard and done their part in giving them a chance.

“All of them stick out in my mind for their efforts and determination,” Kirk said. “Everyone has participated. The skill of our higher skilled players such Hunter Engelman, Liam Porreca, and Eddie Mastigliano is very impressive and can create plays anytime they are on the ice. To our newest players such as Mallory Fardand, Carson Kasely, and Josh Pierce who have all contributed. We couldn’t compete without any of them.”

Emmaus squared off with rival Parkland last Monday night in what was originally scheduled to be the season finale. But a postponement of a game earlier this season, means that the Green Hornets and their four seniors still have the opportunity to suit up and play in one more game this season. Emmaus is scheduled to play Phillipsburg at some point in the next week or two to conclude their year.

“Our seniors are Hunter Engelman, Aaron Kirk, Kyler Kuzar and Liam Porreca,” said Kirk. “Each one of them have been a part of the organization for multiple years now. They provide leadership in the locker room and on the ice that our under classmen need and look up. We are happy to be able to get out for one more game with them.”
