Eloise Cohen Engelson, 96, of Macungie, died Dec. 22, 2021, in her home. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Isidor and Sadie (Miller) Cohen.

She was employed as a teacher in the Allentown School District for 36 years, retiring in 1985.

She graduated from Allentown High School in 1942, received her bachelor’s degree from Shippensburg University and her master’s degree from Lehigh University.

She had an engineering brain, was the smartest person her daughter ever met and was extremely principled and ethical.

She had a great love of animals, especially cats and dogs. She was a highly principled and respected educator, with a devilish prankster side. A woman of quick wit and quick mind. Smart as a whip she was loved, admired, revered and appreciated by her family, friends and students of life.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan Friefeld; a granddaughter, Samantha L. and her husband, Jason Algaze; a great-grandson, Elias Algaze. She was predeceased by a brother, Col. Sydney M. Cohen.
