DONCHEZ GETS COUNTY POST: Robert Donchez, former eight-year mayor of the City of Bethlehem,was appointed the Deputy Director of Human Resources for Northampton County by Northampton County Executive Lamont McClure. His first day on the job was Jan. 18.

Donchez was for 18 years on city councils and was on the Public Safety, Community Policing, Finance, Public Works, Parks & Public Property and Community Development committees. As mayor, he oversaw 579 city employees, conducted regular negotiations with three different unions and spent approximately 10 hours a week on matters related to personnel.

He was a member of various commissions and boards, including the Bethlehem World Heritage Commission, the Bethlehem Economic Development Corporation, the Lehigh Valley Development Corporation, The Lehigh Valley Planning Commission, Governor Tom Wolf’s Transition Committee on Drugs & Alcohol, the Hispanic Center of the Lehigh Valley Board of Directors, the Bethlehem Area Public Library Board and many others.

“We are fortunate that the Mayor has agreed to bring his extensive toolbox filled with experience to help us manage one of the largest workforces in the Lehigh Valley,” McClure said.

GRACEDALE AWARD: Lamont McClure and the administrators at Gracedale Nursing Home announced recently that AmeriHealth Caritas Pennsylvania Community Health Choices has awarded an additional $94,388.49 for the good work on quality measures. This one-time payment for SNF Quality Enhancement Programs is passed on the facility’s performance on benchmarks related to percentage of (1.) high-risk long-stay residents with pressure ulcers; (2.) long-stay residents assessed and appropriately given the pneumococcal vaccine; (3.) long-stay residents assessed and appropriately given the seasonal influenza vaccine; (4.) long-stay residents experiencing one or more falls with major injury; and (5.) short-stay residents who were re-hospitalized after a nursing home admission.

“I want to thank all of Gracedale’s employees for their hard work and dedication over these last two years,” McClure said. “The COVID-19 pandemic has been the challenge of our generation and I’m grateful to our staff for rising to the occasion and providing quality care to our residents.”
