Special to The Press

North Whitehall supervisors met for the first time in the new year on Jan. 3.

Early in the meeting, the board gave a certificate of appreciation to two residents, Patrick Lee and his son, Joshua, in recognition of their life saving rescue of a man from a house fire on Dec. 13, 2021.

“Demonstrating incredible bravery and selflessness. Saving a life under emergency conditions exemplifies the values and characters of a dedicated citizen willing to go above and beyond to the ordinary act of courage,” Secretary, Treasurer Brenda Norder read from the certificate.

Neffs Fire Chief Jim Stewart then addressed the father and son.

“On behalf of the North Whitehall emergency services group, we really appreciate your assistance that probably saved that gentleman’s life or at least a lot of injury,” Stewart said. “And, in a time where everything is overshadowed with negativity and, you know, we’re going to hell in a hand basket, it shows the area’s still got people who keep it together and there are still good people out there.”
