Emmaus prepares for midterm exams as end of second marking period approaches

To support the Emmaus High School Class of 2023, take out or dine in at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse of Allentown noon to 10 p.m. Jan. 13. For 20 percent of your sale to benefit EHS, you must show the fundraiser flyer, attached in the EHS announcements, upon placing your order. Use fundraiser code “JAN534” if ordering online.

Habitat for Humanity is collecting paint donations now through Jan. 14 to benefit home building for local families in need. Paints must be liquid, latex, in original containers and up to 10 years old. Donation boxes can be found in the main office, auditorium lobby, cafeteria hallway, Room 513 and lobby by Mr. Fortier’s office.

An important reminder to students that midterm exams will run Jan. 18-21. Exams for students’ 1B and 3B classes will be administered Jan. 18, exams for students’ 1A and 3A classes will be administered Jan. 19, exams for students’ 2B and 4B classes will be administered Jan. 20 and exams for students’ 2A and 4A classes will be administered Jan. 21. Those dates will run on a normal bell schedule and exams will not be worth over 10 percent of a marking period grade. Use the EHS website or Schoology for more information. Lehigh Career and Technical Institute is accepting applications from current juniors interested in taking the 2022-2023 Animal Sciences Program next school year. Shadowing opportunities and dual enrollment courses are among the program’s many benefits, preparing students for careers in veterinary medicine. For details and requirements, visit www.lcti.org. Applications are due Feb. 11.

The Emmaus Rotary Club is holding a speech competition for all grade levels. Speeches are to address an argument supporting an ethical dilemma of choice. The local competition will be held at Willow Lane Elementary School 10 a.m. March 19. Winners will then advance to regional and final competitions in April. Winners will also win cash prizes and gain valuable college resume experience. Interested students can contact tmoyer@eastpennsd.org for details.

If you have not received your student ID for the 2021-2022 school year, stop by the library during a free period or before/after class to pick it up at the front desk.
