Catty falls to Kids on Turkey Day

While Catasauqua’s Thanksgiving Day football game against Northampton didn’t define the Rough Riders’ season, it did define Turkey Day tradition on a beautiful, sunny, stadium-filled morning at the newly dedicated Alumni Field at Catasauqua Middle School.

“This is my first Turkey Day game, so it was great to come here and see the fans come out and support us,” said Catty wide receiver/defensive back Wyatt Younes. “Both of us had positive records, and this was a good game.”

Catty finished its regular season with a record of 7-4; Northampton, 12-0, but it was the Konkrete Kids who came up with a 47-13 victory on Thanksgiving.

“This is a big game, but Northampton is also a 6A school. This game does not define our season, so we’ll get back to work, and we’ll be ready for next year,” said Catasauqua coach Travis Brett. “We’re happy with where we’re at. We’ve returned almost 25 kids that are here today, and we only lose five seniors. I just told them to go out and have fun. It’s the last game of the year. Go out and have fun and play football and good things will happen.”

Catty’s first touchdown came on a recovered fumble by Younes who took it 76 yards into the end zone.

“[Caden Henritzy] was holding it out, and I decided to take advantage of it,” Younes said. “The coaches were saying that the whole time, you know, decide to make a great play and give our team some momentum in the second half.”

Catty running back Elijah Soler scored the Roughs’ second touchdown on a five-yard carry with 29 seconds remaining in the game. Quarterback Christian Fye, who had 162 passing yards, kicked the extra point.

Henritzy scored Northampton’s first two touchdowns, the second after a 54-yard play on a pass by K-Kids quarterback Cooper King to Caden Reph.

The Kids led 34-0 at the half after the Roughs went for an all-or-nothing play with 1:36 remaining in the second quarter.

Fye completed a pass to Ian Juica resulting in a first down from the 15-yard line, but on the last play of the drive, a pass to the end zone fell incomplete.

“Northampton’s a good team, and they gave us a battle,” said Younes. “We were up for the challenge, and I think we have a lot of improvement going into next season. We have a lot to build off from this game.”

Younes and Juica were named players of the game for Catty, along with Northampton’s King and Tristen Pinnock.

“I worked really hard all season, but it couldn’t have been done without my team, and without them I wouldn’t have had any of this,” said Younes.

Juica had three receptions for 146 yards, including a reception that set up the Roughs’ last touchdown.
