Changes suggested to benefits plan

At the Nov. 18 Upper Milford Township Board of Supervisors meeting, Manager Bud Carter updated the board on the suggested change in the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs Municipal Retirement Trust Defined Benefits Plan MMO.

As suggested by an actuary, the increase for 2022 would be $8,402. This increase is necessary to remain solvent in the future.

The township has received an application for an agricultural security area for a property located at 4246 Main Road West. The board accepted this application which sets in motion the first steps in the process for inclusion in the agricultural security area.

In preparation for the upcoming holiday festivities held by the Old Zionsville UCC, a letter has been submitted by Kathy Latshaw requesting assistance from the special fire police 2:30-3:15 p.m. and 7-7:45 p.m. Dec. 24.

In other news, applications will be accepted until Nov. 30 to fill the seat on the library board vacated by Jenny Kemps. If anyone is interested, fill out a volunteer application.

In her report, Supervisor Joyce Moore clarified a question posed during the Nov. 4 meeting in reference to the length of time the open space tax can remain in effect. As per Solicitor Marc Fisher, the open space tax cannot be repealed any sooner than five years. The tax does not expire on its own and can only be repealed if it is placed on the ballot as a referendum question. If a majority of voters do not wish for the tax to continue it will be repealed the following fiscal year. If approved by voters it remains in effect for a minimum of five years.

The next supervisors meeting will be held Dec. 2.
