NORTHAMPTON COUNTY

CORONER’S REPORT: Between Jan. 1 and Nov. 20, 2021, the Northampton County Coroner recorded 217 COVID-19 related deaths in Northampton County (179 Residents/38 Non-Residents). The last COVID-19 related death was recorded Nov. 20. As of Oct. 14, the Lehigh County Coroner reported 107 deaths of Northampton County residents. Between the two counties, 286 deaths of Northampton County residents from COVID-19 have been reported this year.

“With the holidays approaching, cases of COVID-19 are expected to increase,” says Lamont McClure. “I encourage everyone who can to get vaccinated and, if they develop symptoms, get tested and quarantine to prevent further spread of the virus.”

In 2020, the Northampton County Coroner reported 403 COVID-19 related deaths (359 residents and 44 Non-residents). The Lehigh County Coroner reported 118 deaths for a total of 477 COVID-19-related deaths for Northampton County residents in 2020.

COUNTY PRISON: The Director of Corrections reports that, as of November 22nd, there are zero cases of COVID-19 among inmates at Northampton County Prison (NCP). Since the start of the pandemic, 292 inmates have tested positive; 292 have finished their quarantine periods or are no longer at NCP. Currently, three Department of Correction staff are in quarantine after testing positive for the virus.

Since March 2020, NCP has conducted 5,745 tests for COVID-19 on inmates. All new inmates are tested when they come into the facility and must show a negative result before they are transferred to General Population; residents are tested on a random basis.

NCP has held 25 vaccination clinics this year and vaccinated 467 inmates. Currently, 316 inmates in the facility are fully vaccinated.

There are currently 641 inmates in residence at NCP.

VACCINATION CLINIC: A COVID-19 drive-through vaccination clinic and testing site is open at 3100 Emrick Blvd. Bethlehem Township, 18020. Hours of operation are Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Tuesday/Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. The drive-through testing center is located in the parking area to the rear of the Coordinated Health Building and is separate from patient parking and routine patient care.

GRACEDALE: As of Nov. 24, there were zero cases of COVID-19 among Gracedale residents or staff. Currently, 94percent of residents have been vaccinated with 316 also having received the booster; 77 percent of healthcare workers are vaccinated. Gracedale continues to offer vaccination clinics as well as booster shots. Employees and residents of Gracedale began receiving the Pfizer vaccine against COVID-19 in December 2020.
