NASD K-5 schools closed Nov. 22, 23

The elementary schools in Northampton Area School District will be closed for two days for parent-teacher conferences.

NASD Superintendent of Schools Joseph S. Kovalchik announced at the Nov. 8 board of education meeting the conferences will be held 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 22 and 23 at Borough Elementary Schools, Lehigh Elementary School, Moore Elementary School and George Wolf Elementary School.

Students in grades 6-12 will have classes.

In other news, Kovalchik announced the fall student play, “Fools,” presented by Northampton Area High School Theatre Company, will be held 7 p.m. Nov. 19 and 20 in the NAHS auditorium. Face masks are required to be worn by attendees.

Upcoming events include the senior breakfast 7:30-8 a.m. Nov. 23 at NAHS and the NAHS Turkey Day pep rally 1:30-3 p.m. Nov. 23.

Schools are closed Nov. 24-29 for the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

NASD school directors voted at the Nov. 8 meeting to approve, by a 9-0 vote:

• Voluntary transfer of Marlise Lesperance, from special education teacher at Lehigh Elementary to special education teacher at NAHS, effective date to be announced

• Contract for services with Kelly Deibert for ASL-English interpreter services, on an as-needed basis, Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2022

• Millie Reppert, cafeteria monitor, Northampton Area Middle School, effective retroactive to Nov. 1, at $13.82 per hour

• Resignation of Megan Lieberman, school nurse, effective Nov. 19

• Retirement of Susan Stoltz, as of Feb. 2, 2022

• Resignation of Donna Ruckman, hall monitor, effective Dec. 31

The NASD website COVID-19 data dashboard seven-day building totals, from Nov. 9 to Nov. 15, as of Nov. 15, are:

NAHS, 7; NAMS, 6; Borough Elementary, 2; Moore Elementary, 0; Lehigh Elementary, 2; George Wolf Elementary, 4; district administration, 0.

The year-to-date NASD positive cases is 223, as of Nov. 15.

The board of education next meets 6:30 p.m. Nov. 22 in the NAHS auditorium, 1619 Laubach Ave.

Face masks are required, personal items will be checked at the entrance, and all attendees must walk through a metal detector in the school lobby.
