Coplay council approves borough hall use for holiday event

At the Nov. 9 Coplay Borough Council meeting, council members approved the use of the gym at borough hall for this year’s annual tree lighting and holiday concert, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 2.

Council also approved a rate increase from Acela Engineering for 2022 and will continue to use the firm’s services.

Other items approved by council at the November meeting were the first reading of the 2022 budget; a special meeting expected to be held 6 p.m. Dec. 20 to approve the 2022 budget; and the annual appointment of auditor Kirk and Summa to audit the Dec. 31 financial statements.

The topic of banning large vehicles and commercial trucks from parking on the borough streets was brought to the attention of council by audience members at both the November workshop and regular meeting. Presently, parking of such vehicles on the borough streets is legal.

Council members reported they would research the requirements needed to possibly institute an ordinance next year.

A motion was made to approve the emergency road repair intermunicipal agreement between the borough of Coplay and Whitehall Township. All council members in attendance voted to approve the motion, allowing it to carry.

The Coplay Community Days organization was granted approval to lease the Community Plaza property for $250 from Nov. 26 through Jan. 31, 2022.
