EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My parents are Amy and Judd, and I have two dogs named Fulton and Callie.

Q. What is your favorite subject?

A. I’ve enjoyed math classes throughout high school but I would say my favorite classes have been Intro to Engineering Design and 2D Foundations. Intro to Engineering Design really opened my mind to how engineers and architects solve problems. 2D Foundations is a drawing and painting class which I decided to take this year to challenge myself and improve my art skills.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. Yes – Player’s Player Award (EHS girls swim and dive, 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons), National Honor Society, Principal’s Honor Roll (all quarters), Achievement in Spanish (2019-2020), Spanish Honor Society and Student of the Month (Health/Wellness, January 2020).

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has

COVID-19 impacted these activities?

A. Yes, I am involved in many extracurricular activities. I swim for the EHS swim team and for Emmaus Aquatic Club,

I am the president of Key Club, I am a member of the Habitat for Humanity Club, I am a Hornet Ambassador and freshman mentor at EHS. I am also a junior swim coach for EMAC and a lifeguard and swim coach at Trident Swim & Tennis Club in the summers. COVID-19 has definitely impacted these activities. For example, last year we were not able to have in-person dual swim meets against other teams. We had virtual meets instead where our team would swim against ourselves and the other team would swim at their pool and then the winning team would be determined based on the results that were sent in. While this was difficult, I was thankful we were able to continue with our sport during the pandemic.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge to date was stepping away from playing softball after 10th grade. Softball was a sport I had loved and played for 10 years. COVID-19 impacted my ability to participate but it had also been hard to balance two sports, school, work and other activities. Although it was a difficult choice because of how much I love the game and how much it had been a part of my life, it taught me the importance of being able to continue on and grow even when you have to let things go.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. My next goal is to attend college. I am planning on applying Early Decision to a small, liberal arts college in New York where I plan to continue swimming at the NCAA Division III level.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I appreciate all of the coaches and teachers I have had over the years. They have each taught me something different and they have really contributed to me being the person I am today.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered for my hard work and dedication to the activities and people I surround myself with.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. I would tell my peers to commit to things that you enjoy. Finding activities that you like doing and giving your all to them can help you have fun and get the most out of high school.
