LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Liberty girls blank the Zephyrs 2-0

Liberty’s girls soccer team poured on the pressure to defeat Whitehall, 2-0, last week at Whitehall.

“That was an expectation we talked about before the game, making sure we’re pressuring them higher up the field and forcing them to play back and continuously make them feel uncomfortable,” said Liberty head coach Andrew Uhler.

Hurricane senior Ariana Reid had the assist on the Hurricanes’ first-half goal scored by Hannah Oliver.

“I waited and saw Hannah running in between two of the Whitehall girls, and then I passed it on the outside and then she took a touch. It felt great, and it actually felt better than scoring the goal,” Reid said. “Our chemistry was really there today. We’re doing what we’re supposed to be doing to become that really good team.”

Liberty freshman Natalya Teran scored the Hurricanes’ second goal in the 64th minute on an assist by Caitlin Ohl.

“We had to keep exploiting those wide areas and their outside backs. They have some great speed on the outside, particularly number three (Ava Wells). She’s great,” said Coach Uhler. “Alyssa Marstellar put us under a lot of pressure; number 31 (Sarah Wakim) also, so we wanted to account for that, but also use it against them because they were quick to get high up the field, but we have the same kind of speed. Then we were able to exploit on the counterattack.”

This past weekend, Freedom defeated Stroudsburg, 1-0, at Freedom, and Bethlehem Catholic defeated Liberty, 1-0, at Liberty.

Becahi’s goal was scored by Jianna Brown toward the end of the first half.

Gabby Amato made 10 saves for the Golden Hawks, and Sophia Albino made 12 saves for the Hurricanes.

No stats were available from the Freedom game.
