Upper Macungie police offering Operation Bee Safe program

Upper Macungie Township police have announced they will once again be conducting Operation Bee Safe, aimed at protecting children at school bus stops.

Through the program, residents are encouraged to nominate their child’s bus stop.

Once nominated, the bus stop will be added to a list of rotating stops monitored by patrol officers in marked police car with exterior emergency lights and police decals, and unmarked police cars, as well as officers on foot.

Officers committed to this program are instructed to:

·Ensure the safety of children and parents at every stop.

·Monitor the stop for school bus flashing red light violators.

·Cite and prosecute offenders to the fullest extent of the law.

To nominate a bus stop, email Officer Julia Poapst at jpoapst@uppermac-pd.org, or call 484-661-5911.

Bus stop information may be left in her voicemail.

In your message, include all of the following information:

·Exact location of the bus stop (example: “146 Lone Lane” or “Intersection of Lone Lane and Helen Drive”).

·Exact pickup and drop-off times as provided by Parkland School District.

At this time, this service is only available to those who live within the jurisdiction of the Upper Macungie Township Police Department.

Typically they receive numerous requests in other jurisdictions but do not have the authority to enforce traffic laws if the stop is not in Upper Macungie Township.
