Kids field hockey loses to Parkland

On Tuesday the Northampton field hockey team hosted Parkland in a battle of 2020 district semifinalists. The Trojans came away with a 2-0 win on the strength of a first period goal by Darby Reyburn and a third quarter goal by Logan Oswald.

The loss dropped the K-Kids record to 1-2 on the young season. Parkland moved to 2-0 including a season-opening 5-4 win against Easton.

The Reyburn goal came at the 3:38 mark during the run of play. The Oswald goal was scored off a penalty corner with 9:39 left in the third period.

The Trojans led in penalty corners 10-5 and shots on goal 8-5.

The K-Kids had their strongest moments during the final 6 minutes of the third quarter. They had a controversially disallowed goal at 5:37 and they generated four of their five corners during this time.

Despite the loss, head coach Carrie Saul sees improvement in her squad since the beginning of the season.

“There’s definitely growth here,” she said. “We just have to be able to put the ball in the back of the cage. That one (that was disallowed) was a goal. But we still would have lost 2-1, so it doesn’t pay to have sour grapes.”

As she does after every contest Saul recognized her players of the game.

“My midfielders today had a heck of game,” she said. “Our right-side midfielder Raegan Iasiello and our left side midfielder Maddie Siegfried did really well today.”

The K-Kids first two games of the season were a 2-0 loss to Nazareth and a 5-1 win against Palisades.

This afternoon Northampton will play host to Pocono Mountain East in a battle of teams with aspirations of making some noise this postseason. The Cardinals are 0-2 on the season, but their losses are to Emmaus 3-1 and Easton 5-1. On Saturday morning the K-Kids travel to Bethlehem Catholic to take on the Golden Hawks. Becahi is 0-1 this year having lost to Emmaus 13-0.
