Jupina to get fresh start at Chestnut Hill

Who doesn’t love a fresh start? Or two?

Liberty soccer player Jordan Jupina will experience his second fresh start, when the center back/defensive midfielder continues his academic and athletic career at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia after experiencing his first fresh start four years ago at Liberty.

“Coach Ahmed Elgayar is brand new, and he said everyone has a spot to fight for,” said Jupina, regarding the Griffins’ head coach. “It reminded me of freshman year at Liberty when (Coach) Ian (Larimer) came in.”

Jupina spoke with several college soccer coaches who were interested in acquiring the incoming freshman, but a visit to Chestnut Hill with his parents in January narrowed down Jupina’s choices to one.

“Toward the end of the tour, I met the coach and he showed me the facilities and turf. He told me I was part of his vision, and he wanted me to be a part of the program they’re building,” Jupina said. “It was very convincing after I met him.”

Jupina’s college pre-season is scheduled to begin Aug.16, and he has been training with Lehigh Valley United, his club team, all summer.

“I love the sport and want to play it as long as I can. I’m looking forward to being part of the team and doing my best to earn a spot,” said Jupina. “At Liberty, I learned from everyone above me like the Koskis, Chris Schray, Safa Turkdomez, Andy Epsaro. There was a lot of great competition, and no spot was ever guaranteed.”

Jupina is planning to major in business management administration.

“I’ll have a really busy fall, but my classes will be built around the season,” he said.

The Griffins’ first match is a preseason scrimmage against West Chester University.
