Moore looks to stay alive at states

After taking second in the Lehigh Valley Connie Mack League, falling to unbeaten Northwest Bethlehem in the finals, Moore Township remained the only Lehigh Valley team standing in the state playoffs.

Moore was set to take on Harleysville at Limeport Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Editor’s note, Moore beat Harleysville Tuesday and will play again on Thursday against Plymouth Whitemarsh at 7:30 in Limeport.

“Through the first two rounds of the tournament we are the only Lehigh Valley Connie Mack team to still be in the winners bracket,” said head coach Jarad Haupt.

Moore was the second seed and had a first round bye. They knocked off Pennridge on Saturday 10-0 in a five-inning game.

Sam Erschen led the way on the mound, going all five innings and allowing just three hits while walking two and fanning three.

“Sammy threw another gem for his seventh win of the season,” Haupt said. “We played error free baseball behind him.”

Mason Haupt and Jed Colyer had some clutch hits and generated 7 RBIs between them. Haupt went 3-for-3 with a run and three of the RBIs while Colyer was 1-for-3 with a run and four RBIs. Erschen had two hits and scored three runs. Owen Laury and Brayden Radar had the other RBIs.

“I ran us into a double play early in the game with a hit and run call but the boys picked me up after that and we played one of our best games of the year,” Haupt said.
