EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I graduated from Emmaus High School in June.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My parents are Kathy and Steve Heilenman. I have an older sister named Abby Heilenman and two dogs named Jack and Stella.

Q. What was your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject was probably economics because I love how applicable it is to real life situations and I had a great teacher who made class entertaining and a ton of fun.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I received various awards through my work on Emmaus’s student run newspaper, The Stinger, at the regional, state and national levels.

Q. Were you involved in any extracurricular activities? How did COVID-19 affect these activities?

A. I was editor-in-chief of The Stinger, treasurer of Interact Club and a member of the tennis and track teams, as well as winter track club. In regard to COVID-19, I was still able to participate in my extracurriculars, but it was limited and not as collaborative as normal because we had to stay socially distanced.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. To date, my biggest challenge was definitely making sure I stayed involved with school and other activities during COVID-19. With everything being remote, it made it too easy to just stay home and not get involved.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. My next goal is to attend Wake Forest University and major in mathematical economics, possibly going into business or obtaining a law degree.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. It’s cliché, but I admire my parents. To me, they are just good role models for all aspects of my life.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would probably like to be remembered as someone who works hard and was successful.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. To try new things! Going into high school, I didn’t plan on participating in the school newspaper, but I am so glad I did because I met new people and learned new things.
