Come celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday at the library all day July 31

Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. Main St., will hold an outdoor scavenger and activity hunt in celebration of Harry Potter’s birthday all day July 31. Families are invited to work together in their allotted time slot. Advance registration is required. Visit eplcollection@cliu.org or call 610-965-9284, ext. 210.

The Emmaus Public Library has new hours effective June 1. The hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The library will be closed July 5 for the holiday.

The library is offering many fun programs for adults, teens and youngsters in July. The adult book bingo continues through Aug. 31.

All month long, the library celebrates writing and encourages its library users to take part in Camp NaNO, the July writing event. Set a goal and write, write, write. For kids, teens and adults write anytime and everywhere.

Local artist Abraham Darlington will present a workshop on painting expressively with acrylics, 11 a.m. July 24. Bring an old shirt or apron to keep your clothes clean and some bug spray. The workshop will be held outdoors in the backyard of the library. The workshop is limited to 15 attendees, ages 16 and over. RSVP via Eventbrite link:https://acrylic-workshop.eventbrite.com.

The take home craft kit for kids is animal puppets. Pick the kit up at the curbside table or circulation desk beginning July 1 while supplies last.

Miss Sue will tell stories on the lawn 10:30 a.m. July 7. Local sculptor Laura Elmore will guide elementary-aged children through an art experience on the library’s back lawn 2 p.m. July 10. Registration is required.

Magician Macie Bazella, Miss Pennsylvania Junior High School America, will present a magical story time for readers of all ages 6 p.m. July 12.

Staff from the Lehigh Valley Zoo will visit 2 p.m. July 17 for “Chill with a Penguin,” a fun hour of an interactive learning program with a penguin. Registration is required.

There will be a bike safety event 11 a.m. July 22. Bring your bike to try out the library’s bicycle safety course in the library parking lot. Tracy Fox, safety coordinator with the Highway Safety Network, will have information on safety and health for the summer.

Books ‘n’ Barks is back. Read to the Lehigh Valley Therapy dogs 6:30 p.m. July 29 on the library lawn. No registration is required. Bring your own books or choose one from the library. In case of inclement weather, this event will be canceled.

The library is coordinating Plant a Row produce collections again this year. The is an opportunity to share the bounty from your garden with local food pantries by dropping off extra produce at the library for Plant A Row LV. The first pickup was June 21. The library collected more than 240 pounds of produce last year. Place your washed produce in the cooler by the front entrance after 7 p.m. Sunday evenings or by 10 a.m. Mondays. Pick up takes place every Monday morning.

The Emmaus Garden Club will meet noon July 6 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002. N. Second St., Emmaus. The program will be “Rooftop Garden with Louise Clarke.” Clarke has many interests but calls herself “a plant geek.” A horticulturist at Bloomfield Farm, Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania, Clarke designed rooftop gardens supporting more than 50 types of plants. Come out and learn about the many environmental benefits of rooftop gardens. Clarke has been associated with Longwood Gardens and has a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental design and horticulture from Temple University. Guests are always welcome. Emmaus Borough Council will meet 7 p.m. July 19. The borough offices, 28 S. Fourth St., will be closed July 5 for the July 4 holiday.

The Emmaus Community Park Pool is open noon to 8 p.m. every day in July. Aqua Zumba is offered Mondays and Wednesdays in July. In the event of inclement weather, Aqua Zumba will be held on Friday. There is free Zumba offered 8:45 a.m. every Saturday at the Arts Pavilion in the park. Something new is the cardio drumming program 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Mondays at the Arts Pavilion. Concerts in the park are held every Sunday rain or shine in the Arts Pavilion. The following musical groups will perform in July: DMC DUO performs July 4. There is no concert scheduled July 11. James Supra/Sarah Ayers Band July 18 and The Large Flowerheads July 25.

The Pocono Duo will entertain 6 to 8 p.m. July 9 as part of the borough’s Tunes in the Triangle at Triangle Park and Woodside Ave. will entertain July 23.

The Emmaus Farmers Market at the Triangle on Main Street in Emmaus is held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday. The Emmaus Historical Society thanks everyone who donated to and/or shopped at its June 5 yard sale. The weather was great making for a fun community experience. The sale was a huge success – breaking all prior records. Proceeds benefit the society’s general operating fund. The society will begin accepting donations for the spring 2022 sale in September. Come enjoy the music of the Quarantettes on the Porch of the Emmaus Historical Society, 218 Main St. noon June 27. Feel free to bring a chair to listen to this 30-minute performance.

The Emmaus Historical Society and Museum is excited to announce its reopening date the weekend of Aug. 14 and 15. It will be celebrating Lehigh Valley Passport to History Month 2021 in conjunction with numerous other historical organizations throughout the Lehigh Valley during the month of August. Stay tuned for information about the new displays and events part of this fun weekend.

Plan and reserve your spot early for the bus trip to the American Music Theater in Lancaster for the 2021 Christmas Show, “Winter Wonderland.” The show is scheduled for Nov. 18. The cost includes lunch at Bird in Hand before the 3 p.m. show. Deadline to reserve a seat is Oct. 7.

If you are visiting Emmaus Community Park, be sure to view the progress on the art project decorating the long building. The 159-foot community art project is coordinated by the Emmaus Arts Commission. The design is already mapped out and features barn stars local to the Lehigh Valley.
