Two Parkland players will compete on this year’s Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup baseball team.

Junior pitcher/infielder Blake Barthol and sophomore outfielder/pitcher Bo Barthol were both selected to be part of the team.

The Carpenter Cup, which is run by the Philadelphia Phillies, is an all-star showcase for high school baseball players from parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

The Lehigh Valley franchise has won the Carpenter Cup twice, in 2011 and 1998. The event was canceled last year. The defending champ from 2019 is Burlington County, NJ.

The 25-man LV squad features players from 14 different high schools throughout the Lehigh Valley.

The Lehigh Valley team is managed by former Palmerton baseball coach Ted Plessl. The longtime Bomber head coach is assisted by Tom Plessl, Joe Candelmo, Cody Weiss, Jeremy Gigliotti and Ken Serfass. Joe Pirro serves as the team’s general manager.

The Lehigh Valley will open the 16-team single-elimination tournament on Tuesday, June 15 when its faces the Philadelphia Catholic League team at 4 p.m. at UYA Showcase Field in FDR Park in Philadelphia.

If it wins in the tournament opener, the Lehigh Valley will play its quarterfinal round game on Friday, June 18.

The tournament semifinals and finals will be held at Citizen’s Bank Park in Philadelphia on Monday, June 21 and Thursday, June 24.
