Sheftel Tournament, sports clinic on June 19

The Justin Sheftel Memorial Softball Tournament will be having its 17th annual tournament on June 19 at the Lehigh County Athletic Fields, 466 Parkway Road, South Whitehall.

There will be activities and games for the kids, spectacular auction items and delicious food to eat.

What started as a friendly softball game in 2005 to raise money in memory of Justin Sheftel, who was hit and killed by a drunken driver just hours after graduating from Parkland High School, has now donated more than $500,000 to the Lehigh Valley community.

St. Luke’s University Health Network and Sports Medicine will be returning as the presenting sponsor for the tournament along with Phillies Hall of Fame pitcher, Steve Carlton,

Eighteen teams will be competing and more than 700 friends, family and community members will be in attendance.

The tournament promises to be an event filled with fun, food, softball and activities for all ages.

There will also be a free 2021 all-star baseball sports clinic for middle- and high-school students 12:30-2 p.m. the same day at the Lehigh County Athletic Fields. Rain date is June 20.

The clinic will feature Carlton, Muhlenberg College Head Baseball Coach Tod Gross, DeSales University Head Baseball Coach Tim Neiman plus a variety of high school coaches from area school districts and athletes.

Clinic stations will include: sports performance testing and skills, pitching and catching, middle infield, first and third base, infield, outfield play and hitting.

Registration is required.
