Schnecksville Community Fair having special baking contests

Although the 2021 Schnecksville Community Fair will not occur, all six annual competitive baking contests will be run during what would have been fair week.

The fair is seeking contestants, and the contests are open to any individual amateur baker who is a Pennsylvania resident. One entry per person.

Two contests, however, are limited to junior bakers 8 to 18 years of age.

Contest schedule:

·June 22, 6 p.m. PA Preferred Cookie, Brownie and Bar Junior Baking Contest, sponsored by PSACF, 7 p.m. Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest, sponsored by New Tripoli Bank.

·June 23, 6 p.m. Refreshing Rhubarb Dessert Contest, 7:30 p.m. INCREDIBLE! Angel Food Cake Contest, sponsored by PSACF and PA’s Egg Growers.

·June 24, 6 p.m. Youth Cupcake Contest, sponsored by Houser Auctioneers, 7 p.m., Homemade Chocolate Cake Contest, sponsored by The Neffs National Bank.

Contest entrants may not have won first place at any other fair in 2021.

Cash prizes are awarded for the top three judged entries in each competition.

Four of the six winners are eligible to represent Schnecksville Community Fair in the statewide competition at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in January 2022, where winners will receive $500 for first prize.

All contest entries must be made from scratch, include the recipe, and be entirely edible including any decorations.

Once entered in the contest, all entries (item, recipe, plate) become the property of the Schnecksville Community Fair. No refrigeration is provided.

Visit schnecksvillefair.com/information/contests/ for more information including individual contest rules and judging criteria, prize details, drop-off instructions, and links for preregistration.

There may not be a fair this year but the Schnecksville Community Fair still wants to celebrate the terrific bakers in the area.

All masking, social distancing and occupancy restrictions in place at the time will be enforced during the contests and the events will not be open to the general public.
