Liberty hasn’t had much trouble this season on the baseball diamond, but the Hurricanes could have been in a tussle in yesterday’s EPC semifinal round against Pleasant Valley.
The results of the game were past Press deadlines, but Liberty (18-1) will be seeing a familiar foe in Pleasant Valley (13-4).
The last time both teams saw each other was May 6, where Liberty held on for a 5-3 victory.
“PV brings a scrappy team that puts the ball in play and plays good defense,” said head coach Andy Pitsilos. “They threw their top pitcher the other day, so I think we will see their number two.”
Liberty is coming off a 13-0 thrashing over East Stroudsburg South in the EPC quarterfinals, as pitcher Devin Fletcher struck out 10 and allowed one hit on the day.
The Bears had an impressive 9-3 win over Easton in their league opener, as Brandon Ratti struck out 11 and didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning for the fourth-seeded Bears.
Ratti is PV’s ace, which should help Liberty’s cause as Parker Frey comes to the mound for the Hurricanes, who are the overwhelming favorites to win the win the EPC crown.
“Every matchup at this stage is tough,” Pitsilos said. “Playoffs are always tough.”
