Boys beat EHS in final dual meet

Parkland boys track and field coach Stephen Ott is not only proud of his team’s 88-62 win over Emmaus last Wednesday at Parkland High School, he’s proud that the Trojans did it as a team.

“Our track and field teams are made up of individuals performing together toward a common goal,” Ott said. “Each person is part of the team.”

With the win, his team is 4-0 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference’s Lehigh Division with the league and district championships scheduled to start next week.

“The goal was to win each meet as a team, and improve individually during those meets,” Ott said.

While the Trojans have worked together to earn their perfect record, there have been superlative individual performances along the way. Against Emmaus, sprinter Mustapha Salau continued to show everyone he is a force, winning the 100, 200 and 400-meter races. Brady Hoffman won the 800 run for Parkland, while teammate Justin Trexler claimed first place in the 110 hurdles.

Parkland’s relay teams have looked good in all four regular season meets. Against the Hornets, Tyler Vicari, Dylan Simon, Rhian Romain and Connor Sherwood won the 4x100 relay and teammates Humza Iman, Brady Hoffman, Tyler Vicari and Salau won their 4x400 encounter. High jumper Connor Johns beat fellow Trojan James Kelly in a close battle and Sherwood won the triple jump.

“Our season was a short one,” said Ott. “It is about moving forward. Move forward and get better.”

The Trojans’ final dual meet against Nazareth was canceled. The East Penn Conference Championship is set for May 10 at East Stroudsburg South High School, with the District 11 Meet scheduled for the follow week at Blue Mountain High School.
