4-H Farm to Table Club improves park for bluebirds

By John Emanuel

Special to The Press

The Lehigh County 4-H Farm to Table Club met April 18 at the Laurys Station Firehouse Park.

Special guest, state Rep. Gary Day, R-187th, came to commend the youth for their efforts on the community service project.

The 4-H Club recently handcrafted bluebird houses in preparation for this service project.

The Farm to Table Club researched the importance of bluebirds to agriculture, as well as the annual maintenance necessary for a successful bluebird trail.

The 4-H’ers each installed a new bluebird house to replace the existing damaged ones.

After installation, they trimmed the brush surrounding each post.

Anyone visiting the Laurys Station Park is invited take a walk on the newly refurbished bluebird trail.

The 4-H Farm to Table Club welcomes all youth ages 5-18.
