Ellwood, DSU fall in title hoop contest

Lycoming College used a 22-5 run over the final 6:03 of the first half to open up a 20-point halftime lead en route to a 69-53 win over the DeSales University men’s basketball team in the MAC Freedom Championship game on Friday evening in Billera Hall.

DeSales got to the finals by getting 33 of its 63 points from its bench in a 63-59 win over the same Lycoming team to clinch the top seed.

In that game, DSU trailed by one (50-49) with 6:46 to go before a 10-4 run put the Bulldogs up five with 1:32 to go.

Junior Keba Mitchell had a tip-in and freshman Elijah Eberly hit a layup off a sweet feed from sophomore Aidan Ellwood, a former K-Kid, late in the run.

Lycoming got within two points with 21 seconds left but Eberly found Ellwood on the press break for a layup and junior Dat Lambert, a former K-Kid and Central players, hit two clutch free throws with 2.5 seconds left to ice the game.
