SHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am currently a senior at Salisbury High School.

Q. Who is in your family? Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. I have quite a large family. My family includes my mom Rosa, my two older brothers Kevin and Javier, and my three younger brothers Adali, Ever and Danny. We also have a 10-month old puppy named Oreo.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. This is a hard question. I fairly enjoy all of the subjects, but I think I have enjoyed my science courses the most. I am currently taking anatomy and physiology and I absolutely love the course.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. The most recent award or recognition I have received is that I will be attending Cedar Crest College on a full scholarship. I am so grateful for the opportunity they have given me in order to study at their facility.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?

A. I was involved in a lot of school clubs like No Place for Hate, Aevidum and I was also a Falcon Ambassador. Due to COVID-19, we are not able to continue due to safety but I enjoy seeing some of the previous projects we were working on before COVID-19 hit.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. After high school I plan on attending Cedar Crest College. I will be majoring in nursing and minoring in Spanish. Hopefully, during that time I am able to travel more and assist those who need help during these hard times.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge to date would be COVID-19. I have seen so many people pass away and many close people to my heart have passed from COVID-19 or from some other sickness. In 2020, my godbrother passed away and this year my grandfather passed away as well. It was hard for me, but their memories will stay with me for as long as I live.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. Unlike others, I do not want to be remembered as a national celebrity. I want people to remember me in their hearts that I have helped them whether that be as a patient or as a friend. If I can help inspire at least one person then I will be satisfied with how I lived my life.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. Without a doubt, I admire my mom the most. She raised my brothers and I by herself and she has always thought positively through any situation. I also admire all my teachers I have had throughout these four years. Every single one of them has pushed me to go beyond the expected. And most importantly, I admire Mr. Anderson, Mrs. Moyer and Mrs. Martinez because they have celebrated every achievement I have made with me.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. To my senior friends, I know all of you will do amazing things in this world and just know that we have grown up in a community where giving up is not an option. I believe you can achieve anything you set your mind to and I know the rest of the Falcon community will support you as well.
