LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Sacred Heart resident turns 101

Virginia Gall has been living at Sacred Heart Senior Living by the Creek, Northampton, since October 2015.

She was born March 31, 1920, to Samuel and Minnie Klotz and is the second youngest of 15 children. With a fairly close family, she met one of her brother’s friends, John Gall, at a young age and ended up marrying him at 21.

They were married for 74 years until his passing. John was a World War II veteran with the U.S. Army and worked at Bethlehem Steel.

While Virginia was in grade school, she performed in the operetta The Mikado as Pitti-Sing.

Virginia spent some time working at a silk mill in Fountain Hill, then stayed home to care for her house, her children and eventually her grandchildren. She was an active member of her church, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bethlehem.

Virginia had two daughters, Karen and Pamela. Karen, unfortunately, died in her teens. Pam is a certified registered nurse practitioner at St. Luke’s and lives in Northampton. Virginia is known by her daughter’s longtime friends as a “second mother” and caregiver to all.

She has two granddaughters, Fayth and Heather, and spent most of their upbringing very involved in their lives. Fayth is an orthodontist in Texas and has three children, Cole, Lilah and Evelyn. Heather is a pediatric dentist in Pennsylvania.

Virginia enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and baking in her free time. She learned to sew to make clothes for her daughter. She also spent a lot of time with her younger brother, Bill, who also helped care for her children and went on vacations with the family most summers. Virginia’s favorite vacation was going to the Caribbean Islands.

Now, she enjoys eating her favorite snacks, especially Hot Tamales; watching Hallmark movies and game shows; and keeping an eye on LeighAnn at the front desk to ensure she is working hard.

These days, you can also find her behind the desk, playing bingo/keno or taking her daily naps.
