FHS gets a win vs. Kids

Freedom’s girls’ basketball team posted its first win of its late-to-start season last week with a 41-35 victory over Northampton after falling to the K-Kids two days earlier in its home opener.

Kailey Turpening had a game-high 15 points for the Patriots, and Corrin Gill added 13 points.

The Pates dropped their next two games to Easton, 46-26 and 53-30.

The road for Freedom has been the toughest within the East Penn Conference, having little to no practice time, and having begun its season well after the other teams in the EPC because of COVID-19 and weather-related suspensions.

This week, the Pates will take on Bethlehem Catholic.

Becahi competed in a nonleague game on Saturday when they hosted Imhotep Charter, won by the Golden Hawks, 73-43.

The Hawks also hosted William Allen last Thursday and defeated the Canaries, 77-44.

Liberty was set to take on Easton last Tuesday when weather postponed the contest, but Thursday’s game ended in a 51-25 loss for the Hurricanes, who are scheduled to face Nazareth this week. However, there was more wintry weather projected for this week.

There will be no EPC playoffs this year, and instead, teams will jump straight to districts, which will be a single-elimination tournament for all beginning March 2.
